What About Terpenes?

What About Terpenes?

You may have already heard of terpenes, but where they come from, what they are and the role they play in your sensory experience with hemp-derived products is understated. Terpenes are molecules that are responsible for the aromatic oils that are found in many plants, and, for Delta Daddy’s purposes, the hemp plant. There are approximately 200 identified terpenes each with its own unique flavor and scent fingerprint. Terpenes are responsible for the fruity flavor delivered by strains such as Blue Dream, the minty flavors characteristic of Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies and the earthy experience brought to you by OG strains.

Terpenes also play a role in the effects produced by a strain and can be useful in determining which product will be most beneficial to your specific needs. This function has been christened the Entourage Effect, and has a lot to do with the therapeutic implications made about hemp products by addressing how each plants’ unique chemical makeup affects your sensory experience.  Terpene molecules work in tandem with cannabinoids such as CBD and Delta-8 to produce unique psychological effects while tasting and smelling awesome at the same time.

A specific example of a terpene at work can be demonstrated by plants that we are all very familiar with…pine trees. This molecule is called alpha-pinene and is nature’s most abundant terpene. When found amongst the other cannabinoids found in hemp plants, alpha-pinene is identified as being counteractive to the short-term memory loss some people experience with delta-8 and delta-9, which is pretty impressive.

As more products become available to you, picking the right one is simplified by knowing what you are trying to achieve and then applying your terpene prowess to determine which product will deliver the best experience. To show you how this might work, here is a breakdown of dominant terpenes in some of our Delta Daddy products and the positive effects they deliver:
